Football Training-The Skill Of Balance

 

Balance is a fundamental attribute to any sport. Without it you will lack the ability to do anything efficiently. Having good balance allows you to exert more power, perform specific movements quicker, contributes to better acceleration and is the bases for just about everything in the game of football.

A balance routine should be incorporated into your football training sessions. To improve your balance you must learn to feel your vestibular system better. This is the mechanism in your inner ear that tells you when you are starting to lose your balance, it tells you how much you are losing your balance and which direction. While training to improve your balance you become more sensitive to this system, thus improving your balance greatly.

There are a few exercises you can do to improve your balance, such as: standing on one leg exercises, working on your abs, jump rope and surfing. But why do you need to improve your balance? The better your balance is the more precise your dummies and tricks are, the better acceleration you will have because of the better technique you will have, good balance will make you stronger on the ball, having good balance allows you to do combinations with dummies and it allows you to move from one move to another a lot smoother.

ONE LEG EXERCISES
Theres no doubt that including a balancing routine into your football training, can help you further develop as a player. Unfortunately the exercises to improve your balance aren't the most enjoyable except, surfing. But to further enhance your football career you need every edge you can get. Below is some examples that will you help improve your balance:
- Firstly start by simply standing on one leg
- Keeping your eyes open you can do calf raises
- doing one leg squats
- shutting your eyes while on one leg
- while your eyes are shut see if you improve to the stage where you do calf raises and squats with you eyes still shut

THE JUMP ROPE
You need to get hold of a jump rope, and go through the regular drills. Not only does this help your balance, but it also helps your stamina, speed and power in the legs.

ABS
Having a strong core gives your body the added strength to able to maintain it's balance, while having that extra allows the body to recover quicker or from situations where you would naturally lose your balance.
